I. God calls us into His presence
Call to Worship (Ps. 113:1-2)
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Song of Praise - "O Worship the King" (Trinity Hymnal # 13)
(verse 1)
O worship the king all glorious above,
O gratefully sing his power and his love;
Our shield and defender, the ancient of days,
Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.
(verse 2)
O tell of his might, O sing of his grace,
Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is his path on the wings of the storm.
(verse 3)
The earth with its store of wonders untold,
Almighty, thy pow'r hath founded of old;
Hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree,
And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.
(verse 4)
Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air; it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills; it descends to the plain;
And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain.
(verse 5)
Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!
(verse 6)
O measureless might! ineffable love!
While angels delight to hymn thee above,
The humbler creation, though feeble their lays,
With true adoration shall lisp to thy praise.
II. God cleanses us from sin
“ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
We gather as a community in need of cleansing.
Let us offer our honest confession,
in faith and trust in our covenant God,
knowing that God hears our voice.
(Kneeling, if able)
(Minute for silent confession)
Let us then confess our sins to God our Father.
O almighty God, merciful Father, I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto Thee all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended Thee and justly deserved Thy temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray Thee of Thy boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Thy beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. Amen.
May the God of all healing and forgiveness draw us to himself, and cleanse us from all our sins, that we may behold the glory of his Son, the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Songs of Rejoicing -
"Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah" (Trinity Hymn # 53)
(verse 1)
Hallelujah, praise Jehovah, O my soul, Jehovah praise;
I will sing the glorious praises Of my God through all my days.
Put no confidence in princes, Nor for help on man depend;
He shall die, to dust returning, And his purposes shall end.
(verse 2)
Happy is the man that chooses Israel's God to be his aid;
He is blessed whose hope of blessing On the Lord his God is stayed.
Heaven and earth the Lord created, Seas and all that they contain;
He delivers from oppression, Righteousness he will maintain.
(verse 3)
Food he daily gives the hungry, Sets the mourning prisoner free,
Raises those bowed down with anguish, Makes the sightless eyes to see.
Well Jehovah loves the righteous, And the stranger he befriends,
Helps the fatherless and widow, Judgment on the wicked sends.
(verse 4)
Hallelujah, praise Jehovah, O my soul, Jehovah praise;
I will sing the glorious praises Of my God through all my days.
Over all God reigns for ever, Through all ages he is king;
Unto him, thy God, O Zion, Joyful hallelujahs sing.
"I will Rejoice" - Habbakkuk 3 (music and lyrics arranged by Nathan Clark George)
(verse 1)
Though the trees shall not bloom,
And the vine bears no fruit.
Though the fields shall fail,
and yield no food.
Though the flocks are cut off
from within the fold.
And though all is destroyed,
both young and old.
(refrain)
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.
Yes I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
Yes I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
(verse 2)
Though the winds rise up
and the rivers roar
Though the thunder may crash
and storms destroy
Though the mountains may fall
and seas rush in
And though nations invade
by the hand of evil men.
(refrain)
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.
Yes I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
Yes I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
(verse 3)
And the Sovereign Lord
is all my strength.
And He makes me to walk
upon the high place.
(refrain)
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.
Yes I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
Yes I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
I will rejoice in the Lord.
I will rejoice in the Lord.

Sermon Text -
This is the word of the Lord!
Thanks be to God!
Sermon
Confession of the Christian Faith through the Apostle's Creed:
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
IV. God communes with his people
Communion Homily with the Invitation and Fencing of the Table
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to our Lord God.
It is good and right to do so.
It is a right and good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to You, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Therefore we praise You, Triune God, and we join our voices with the Angels, the Archangels, and the whole company of Heaven in this hymn of eternal praise:
Words of Institution (Mt 26:26–28; Mark 14:22–24; Lk 22:19-20; 1 Cor 11:23-29)
Our Lord Jesus Christ on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples and said, “Take; eat; this is my body, given for you. This do in remembrance of me.” In the same way, also, He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them saying, “Drink of it all of you. This cup is the New Testament in My Blood, shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
Consecration of the Bread (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)
The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
For we, being many, are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.
Song during distribution of bread - "Franklin Agnus Dei"
Consecration of the Cup (1 Corinthians 10:16; 5:7-8)
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ?
For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore, let us keep the feast.
Song during distribution of wine - "Nothing but the Blood" (Trinity Hymnal # 677)
(verse 1)
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(refrain)
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(verse 2)
For my cleansing this I see—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my pardon this my plea—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(refrain)
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(verse 3)
Nothing can for sin atone—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(refrain)
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(verse 4)
This is all my hope and peace—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(refrain)
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(verse 5)
Now by this I'll overcome—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Now by this I'll reach my home—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
(refrain)
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Prayer of Commitment:
And now, most Holy Father, having eaten of your Spiritual Word and having Drunk the Spiritual Drink who is Jesus Christ, we depart with our mission to nourish the world with the same Gospel which has filled our lives with satisfaction. Walking in the name of Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will give you praise, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
